Meteora are monasteries built on high rock stars. Due to wind and water erosion, the rocks have got their particular weathered appearance. The Meteora monasteries are considered to be one of the most important places of the Greek Orthodox church. It is located high on the rocks, at about 400 meters.This monastic community was founded in the 15th century by monk Dometius. The treasure room was robbed of German soldiers in World War II.

Very beautiful and typical of this monastery are the golden round roofs with crosses on it. This monastery is one of the four most important religious centers of the Russian Orthodox Church. It was founded in 1051 by the monks Antonius and Theodosius. Already in 1900 this beautiful building was declared world-class. There is a 30 km underground corridor where chapels and prayer rooms are located. Here the monks are also buried. Due to the low temperature in the underground corridors they turn into a kind of mummy. Special! Part of this monastery is accessible to visitors.

The community of faith was founded around 700 AD. Then the archangel Michael would appear with a vision of a church on a rock.Originally, this was a tidal island, with low water, the monastery was then walked. The Rilaklooster is an expression of Slavic culture after a long suppression of the Turks. The monastery was founded in the 10th century by followers of a hermit who drew to the inhospitable Rilage Mountains. His grave is a venue for many pilgrims visiting the monastery yearly. The beautiful location at 1147 meters altitude, the characteristic dashes and the countless frescoes inside and outside make sure that the Rilaklooster has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1983.
