The 80’s music

The music after the punk is called  new wave  , as  the new wave . This term, however, appears to be synonymous with the melancholic, but melodic ‘nephew’ of punk, expressed by  Joy Division ,  The Cure ,  The Smiths ,  Siouxsie and the Banshees . Duran Duran  was one of the bands that mixed the newwave music with a good-looking image and applicable  video clips ,  fashion  and teenage idol marketing. One also speaks of  post punk  instead of new wave, but new wave also covers  synthpop bands as  OMD , Human League ,  Depeche Fashion  and  Pet Shop Boys .

New wave was mainly a European flow; British, German and, to a lesser extent, French new wave made it commercially very good in Europe. But also Spanish and Finnish music from that time typed themselves into big newwave scenes. In America, from the punk as a counterpart of the hardcore, the  college started rock  with bands like the  Pixies  and  REM  and an experimental variant, the  Noise Rock , originating from the  No Wave Stream, with bands like  Sonic Youth .

The  sampler  and  drum computer  are invented and have a major impact on the development of pop music. From New York, in the  early 1980s , totally independent of any music flow, a street culture manifests itself in  electric boogie ,  rap  and  graffiti art . In the mid-1980s there were typical dance music styles that made a major influence in later years:  acid  and  house . The heavy  technoat , a huge volume and the rise of the drug  xtc are model for the flow. The  dj Gets an ever dominant position and gets the same star status as an artist.

In the second half of the eighties, the phenomenon of nostalgia occurred in response to the  house  and music made using  computers  . This is based on music from the sixties and seventies in the many sixties revolutions, the classic radio stations, the television programs about pop artists of the past (many of which came back) and the huge sales results of collecting CDs from these musicians. Lenny Kravitz  is an artist who is starring at this nostalgia.

You also see a stream of mainstream hardrock from America. One can speak of  AOR , stadium rock or spotting  Poser rock , because of the show element and bombast. Bands like  Van Halen ,  Mötley Crue ,  Bon Jovi ,  Europe ,  Def Leppard  and  Guns A Roses .

There is a cross-genre between rap, funk and heavy metal with bands like  The Red Hot Chili Peppers ,  Primus  and the Dutch  Urban Dance Squad .

As the biggest artists of the eighties and early  nineties  , Michael Jackson ,  Madonna  and  Prince are generally considered  . [1]
